For those of you who don’t already know…
Once again it is with great pleasure that Heriot-Watt & Edinburgh Universities Celtic Supporters Club announce the details of the Tommy Burns Supper 2008.
This season’s Supper will take place on Friday 29th February 2008 at 7.30pm, in the Banqueting Hall, Teviot Row House Students Union, Edinburgh University. As always, we will have a night of haggis and neeps, whiskey and verse, and speech and song. Guests will include Tommy of course, plus our Honorary President Pat Nevin, as well as others who have perhaps worn the Hoops, written about the Hoops, sung about the Hoops, or perhaps just happen to like them with the rest of us.
The Tommy Burns Supper is the HWEUCSC's primary annual social evening, and has developed over the years into one of the best-known events on the Celtic social calendar. Like the far-inferior Rabbie Burns Supper, on which it is loosely based, it has acquired its own set of traditions, which are fiercely guarded by the club (well, bequeathed recklessly from year-to-year). The Tommy Burns Supper is a charitable event for the HWEUCSC special cause, Casa Alianza, with all proceeds from the night going towards the rehabilitation and defence of street children in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico (more details at www.casa-alianza.org.uk).
There will be a change in format to this years events, we’re doing away with the restrictive table outlay and will be bringing in more user-friendly round tables. Tickets can be purchased individually for the usual price of £25.00 or there’s an option to purchase a table of 10 for you and your friends for £225.00. As ever, we expect Club members to attend the evening in their hundreds and as per previous years we anticipate a hugely successful, enjoyable and eventful night.
Guests for this years Supper are yet to be announced but our dedicated organising committee have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to provide some pleasant surprises in the hope we can improve on last years great success. If you wish to purchase tickets for the Supper please contact me for details; HWEUCSC members have until 2nd January 2008 to book their seats for a night to remember. Just to clarify, Club members are asked to reserve their tickets by 2nd January 2008, the actual payment and ticket handover deadline is 2nd February 2008, after which remaining tickets will go on general public sale.
